HELP AGE INDIA

According to WHO, between 2015 and 2050, the proportion of the world's older adults is estimated to almost double from about 12% to 22% .

Approximately 15% of adults aged 60 and over suffer from mental health issues, including depression, dementia, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. At the same time, the geriatric population remains a largely igonred community in terms of awareness about and availability of mental health resources.

What has been done?

  • Provided free psychiatric medications to the resients
  • Set up a fortnightly Psychiatry OPD
  • Deputed 5 volunteers dedicatedly for one on one interaction
  • Activity scheduling for the residents
  • Workshop in hygiene and health
  • Follow-ups of the patients regularly who were found vulnerable during screening and baseline assessment.
  • Screening of the entire population for any psycho-social health-related issue.

Current Work

The Project is still ongoin with a hope of registering significant improvement in the overall mental health of the residents. Along with this workship on several mental health related topics are being conducted for the residents as well as staff members.
